Privacy Policy

In very basic terms DARC Technology Club ('we') respects your personal information and will only ask you for what information we really need from you. We will look after it in the same way we would want our data looking after, keeping it secure. We will only share it with others where we need their help to deliver our service to you (such as the company we use to send out our meeting announcement emails who need your email address). Be assured that we will never share your information in any other circumstances, nor will we sell it on elsewhere. Here are more details:
1. Introduction
DARC Technology Club (hereafter referred to as 'DARC', 'we', 'our' or 'us') takes your privacy very seriously. This privacy policy has been prepared in line with the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which promotes fairness and transparency for all individuals in respect of their personal data. This privacy policy applies to all data we process, and by engaging with DARC you consent to collection and use of such data.
2. What information is being collected?
  • DARC collects a variety of information when you join the club, visit to speak at our meetings or request to be kept up to date with future meetings and events. This includes (but is not limited to):
    • Names, Addresses and Contact Information of those joining DARC as Members.
    • Names, Addresses and Contact Information of the those visiting to speak at our meetings.
  • If you email DARC or send messages to DARC via social media, these messages are stored within DARC's email system or social media accounts. These messages are stored for as long as necessary to allow us to provide you with better future services.
3. Who is collecting the data?
This data is collected by DARC Technology Club, which adheres to the principles of the Data Protection Act (DPA).
4. How is it being collected?
Most of our data is collected directly from you. Whether you fill out a form online, or tell us face to face, via the telephone, email or message.
5. Why is it being collected?
Most of the data we collect is solely for the purpose of allowing DARC to contact you with news, information or other communications relating to the club.
6. How will it be used?
  • Data we collect will be used by DARC to enable us to help you make the most of the club.
  • Contact data (email addresses and/or possibly phone numbers) may be used to send you direct information about DARC, including upcoming meetings and events. These can be unsubscribed from at any time.
  • DARC may internally analyse data for forecast purposes.
7. Who will it be shared with?
We take your privacy very seriously. We do not sell your data to third party organisations. There are a few scenarios where some of your data may be shared with third parties to allow us to provide the best service. These include:
  • Our meeting announcements are created and published through a third party. They require your email addresses to send you this information.
  • Law Enforcement and Legal Requirements - we will provide data to law enforcement agencies if issued with a court order to do so.
8. How will this affect you?
DARC collects, stores and processes your data in such a way that should have no negative effect on you as an individual.
9. How long is the data stored?
  • Most data we collect is stored indefinitely. This is to allow DARC to provide a better service to you if you contact us again in the future.
  • DARC will only store data for as long as is required to manage the day-to-day operation of the Club.
  • We are legally obliged to store some data for a minimum amount of time, for example membership payment records etc.
10. Access to stored data.
If you have any questions about data DARC holds about you, please feel free to contact the Club Secretary. As well as trying to help you directly, you are entitled to raise any concerns directly with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
You may request a copy of any data DARC stores about you - and DARC will comply with any requests as per the guidance of the ICO.
